Pension application checklist

Use our pension application checklist to stay on track when applying for your pension.

Informing your employer

Send an email or letter to your supervisor and WorkSafeBC People Services to let them both know your last day of work. We suggest you provide as much notice as possible to ensure a smooth application.

Ensuring your personal information is correct

Sign in to My Account to ensure that your personal information is correct and current. In particular, make sure that your personal email and phone number are listed, not your work contact information. If you have a former spouse with an entitlement to receive a portion of your pension, ensure you have uploaded a copy of your separation agreement or court order.

Applying to retire

No more than 90 days before your pension effective date:

□ Apply for your pension online by signing in to My Account
□ Review the health care coverage available to you as a retired member
□ If you will be age 60 or older when you retire, contact the Canada Pension Plan to apply for benefits
□ If you will be age 65 or older when you retire, contact old age security to apply for benefits

You can begin your pension application 90 days before you’d like your pension to begin. Make sure you apply at least 30 days before your pension effective date (the date you’d like to retire).

Apply for your pension online in My Account. Or request a paper application package. Visit Applying for your pension, under Pension Basics for next steps.
