Transferring service to the WorkSafeBC Pension Plan - WorkSafeBC
How to transfer service between public sector plans
Understand what to consider before transferring service, how the process works, and the potential impact on your pension.
Transferring service to the WorkSafeBC Pension Plan
If you think you may be able to transfer service, you should:
- Contact the WorkSafeBC Pension Plan immediately to confirm your eligibility
- If you are eligible, apply to the WorkSafeBC Pension Plan for a transfer to find out how much service the plan will recognize from your former plan
- Contact your former pension plan to learn about the options available to you from that plan
By submitting the application form, you’re not obligated to transfer your service.
There are deadlines to apply to transfer service.
For most pension plans, you must apply within three years of the later of:
- The date you started contributing to the WorkSafeBC Pension Plan, or
- The date you stopped contributing to your former plan.
For the Federal Public Service Plan, you must apply within one year of the later of:
- The date you started contributing to the WorkSafeBC Pension Plan, or
- The date you ended employment with the federal government.
The WorkSafeBC Pension Plan will transfer the service only after we receive your approval. Transfers cannot be reversed.
